Unique Mystery Shopping Job Profile, the Good and the Bad Sides of Secret Shopping

Nothing in the world is free, but with mystery shopping, individuals can enjoy a lot of things for free. This might sound too good to be true or somewhat like a fallacy, but it is a fact. Going by the profile, mystery shopping can easily get the ‘unique’, ‘interesting’ and ‘challenging’ tags.
The best part of a mystery shopping jobs are that almost any individual can qualify to be a mystery shopper. Nonetheless, those with good observational and writing skills stand a fairer chance when it comes to achieving success in this field.
Mystery shopping is also referred to as secret shopping, frontline evaluation and service check. There is nothing mysterious about the job profile as it appears from the terms ‘mystery shopping’ or ‘secret shopping’. Mystery shopping is a market research tool used to evaluate the quality of a product or service. Mystery shoppers have to carry out such evaluations posing as regular customers in the assigned locations and get paid after successful completion of each assignment.
A mystery shopper is exposed to a wide variety of mystery shopping assignments depending on the nature of the company that hires him. A mystery shopper could get the chance to have lunch or dinner at restaurants, have snacks at popular fast food joints, get facial therapies done, get car or bike servicing done, go for a quick eye check-up, enjoy few days stay at a posh hotel, and so on. Sometimes mystery shoppers might have to purchase products as instructed prior to the assignment. In such cases, companies ensure that they reimburse that amount along with the basic pay after the assignment is successfully submitted and approved. There are many companies who pay bonus or incentives to boost the morale of the good performers. As a matter of fact, different companies have different pay packages.
Like every other thing on the earth, mystery shopping too has a few downsides. The day of a mystery shopper can be too hectic if he has signed up with multiple mystery shopping companies. Time becomes a major constraint in such cases, as a mystery shopper would have to complete an assignment and create a flawless report on it within a given time and go on the next assignment. This way, he can hardly have a moment to spare. Again, performance matters a lot when it comes to surviving in this field for long. Companies give much priority to the mystery shopping reports and hence, mystery shoppers have to create detailed and easy-to-understand reports with accurate information and the correct use of grammar. In case if major mistakes are spotted, a report is sent back to the mystery shopper for rectification. If the mystery shopper fails to identify the mistake and rectify it, the report is not approved and therefore, companies do not pay for that assignment.
